ROUTE DESCRIPTION
ABOUT EAFR
East Anglian Farm Rides has now opened over 250 miles of off road tracks and headlands to horse riders on over 55 farms in Essex. For an annual fee of £130 for adults and £110 for children under 18 years. Horse riders will be able to ride on all routes managed by E.A.F.R. WE HAVE INTRODUCED A MONTHLY PAYMENT SCHEME OF £13 ADULTS OR £11 CHILDREN.
The scheme has enabled horse riders to get off the increasingly busy roads onto farm tracks which join up into interesting riding routes linking where possible existing Public Bridleways.
WE ARE ALSO SEEKING FURTHER FARMERS TO JOIN THE SCHEME, WHICH GIVES THE FARMERS
A SMALL INCOME, WHILST CONTROLLING RIDING ON THEIR PRIVATE FARMLAND.
AREA 1 COLCHESTER TO HALSTEAD
This area is well covered with routes starting in Boxted, West Bergholt via
Little Horkesley, Wormingford, Fordham, Chapel, Wakes Colne to Halstead. Extra
routes from Aldham, Eight Ash Green through to Great Tey.
AREA 2 COLCHESTER - PELDON - MALDON - TOTHAM - WICKHAM BISHOPS
There is now a very extensive set of routes in these areas, with one of the
newest route having opened in Captains Wood, Great Totham with wild boar to be
viewed whilst riding. Ride along the sea wall at Tollesbury or through the
beautiful grounds of Braxted Park. Other routes in Peldon, Langford and
Tolleshunt.
AREA 2A MERSEA ISLAND
Just recently opened is a 3-mile route on the Mersea Island, providing a vital
link to the only Public Bridleway on the Island. Further routes planned in the
near future.
AREA 4 BRAINTREE
10 miles of routes to be enjoyed in this area beginning in Halstead. Riders are
able to rider through High Garrett, Gosfield and Beazley End.
AREA 5 TENDRING DISTRICT
We have now opened 12 miles of new routes in this area much to the delight of
horse riders. Our routes now cover the area for Ardleigh/Dedham across to Little
Bromley, Horsley Cross and Little Bentley. Further negotiations are underway to
extend this new network including at Thorrington/Arlesford.
AREA 6. DENGIE PENNINSULA
We have just agreed over 12 miles of new Routes in this new Area, which will
open up new routes for all our Members.
